What are Prayer Practices?

Prayer Practices is the more common term today being used for Spiritual Practices or classical Spiritual Disciplines. They are ancient practices or are adapted from the classical ancient practice. They allow the processes through which we, the sojourner, may open ourselves to be present to God. These models of prayer have been practiced and shared through the centuries across the traditions of our Christian Faith. They are not formulas to produce one’s agenda or results that can be controlled. They are models that guide us in releasing the outcome and bringing ourselves to a place of surrender. They help create a sacred space to “come apart and be with”. They are to be used in forming our “rule” “rhythm” of life in building our relationship of walking with God. They are our ways to pray. They are a means through which light is shed upon our path to notice God and dialogue with Him. They may be used individually in private or in group settings for both individual and community discernment. They may be used in relationship with Spiritual Direction.

The more common contemplative Prayer Practices being used today are:
